How to Replace an Audi replacement key service G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is situated at the top of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can activate spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper timing chain. However, audi a1 Key Fob the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test since there are different pins on the connector and each one has different functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when it is in full operation. Look for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced a big cut in power like the engine is out of gas or injectors aren't firing any more. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was dry. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The fourth one remains shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I got 0ohm. I'm assuming the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature cost of audi key replacement -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.

I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much ruled everything else out. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is identical to the G4 and they both work in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. It is easy to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines requires to know both the position and speed the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, etc. To accomplish this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

A failing G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate gearbox speed counter and a gearbox which shifts more quickly than normal, or a misfire while in gear. It is possible that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you notice any of these symptoms. The good news is that they are very cheap and readily available particularly in the case of an Bosch sensor, like ours. You can also choose the GM version of this component is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be the reason behind numerous issues in your car. It is a crucial part of the audi a3 key replacement's transmission because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is turning. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other components of the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It sends signals via a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then uses and processes the signal to control fuel, timig and boost and then sends it on to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms between these points. This is a standard component across the replacement audi keys 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good ones could be available in wrecking yards.young-couple-holding-the-keys-of-a-new-car-select-2023-04-03-23-35-08-utc-scaled.jpg
