WoW Upgrades - The item upgrading Upgrader

Upgrades give you an increase in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for those with higher variance due to the need to roll the perfect version.

They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with a button, which will show an image of the item at the next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and the current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests have one purpose and it's crucial to use them wisely. For instance it's best to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the best equipment you have and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan on making. This is especially true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
