WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. A random substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrades upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the item being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with an button, which will show an item's preview when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and the current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item level Upgrade upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require a variety of means, which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with some new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less, even in the event that they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut also, but is only available after certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item upgrader kit level upgrades. Crests are an important component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

First, you should know that Crests are only available to gear with a certain rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, contingent on the type or gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item is at the highest upgrade item level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest level possible on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they have only one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the best equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
